GALLERY46 is an independent Art gallery in Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets, supporting new and upcoming artists, supporting education and cultural institutions, promoting cultural diversity and exhibitions relating to the community and is an important part of the London art scene showcasing new talents as well as attracting international and emerging artists.
Housed in a pair of renovated Georgian houses in the grounds of Whitechapel Hospital and set over 2 floors and 6 rooms is a kaleidoscopic addition to Whitechapel’s burgeoning gallery scene and its artistic heart, the nearby Whitechapel Gallery.
Since opening in September 2016, GALLERY46 has hosted works by artists such as Jake Chapman, Nick Waplington, Polly Morgan, Sean Dower, Barry Flanagan, Paul Fryer, Carali McCall, EINE, Yuval Shaul, the Ai French collective OBVIOUS. Also exhibited have been world renowned photographers David Hoffman, Philip Jones-Griffiths, Dougie Wallace & Nick Thornton Jones & Warren Du Preez - incorporating Bjork’s ‘Notget’ immersive VR spectacular and also showcasing the premier of James Lavelle’s UNKLE film ‘Cowboys or Indians’. Other artists includes Emma Tillman – photo documentary of her life with her husband Josh Tillman aka the musician Father John Misty and iconic fashion partnership Eley Kishimoto.
GALLERY46 have curated iconic exhibitions and happenings including LIMINALITY and Triumph (Art Night London) presented in collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery featuring the first LONDON and UK presentation of a fire poem by international artist Robert Montgomery ‘MONEY IS A SUPERSTITION’.
